PURPOSE

1    Develop an understanding of the key areas from which to cross the ball from and to

2    Develop crossing ability

3    Develop an understanding of the timing of the runs onto the 2nd 6 yard box

4    Develop the ability to finish with a header or a shot from a cross


ORGANISATION

1  The wide player (red) takes one touch prior to crossing the ball

2    ideally player 1 makes a far post run

3    Ideally player 2 makes a near post run

4    On completion of the move the players rest at the                goal they were attacking, ready to next attack the opposite goal.

5    The opposite wide player (blue) then crosses into the other goal

6     Start with low crosses progressing to aerial crosses

KEY FACTORS

1    Deliver into the key scoring zone , the 2nd 6 yd box.

2    The players time their runs off the crosses first touch

3    When making the runs watch the ball and the crosser

4    Ideally bend the run so as to come down onto the flight of the ball.

5    Time the runs to arrive as the ball arrives.

6    Finish with a big surface for accuracy, inside or the outside of the foot or the flat part of the forehead.

7    Crosser to decide area to cross to when defenders are introduced

PROGRESSION

1    Introduce a defender one at a time.

2    Vary service

2    Crosser runs the ball to the goal line

3    Player 1 makes a far post run

4    Player 2 makes a central run and as an option delays for a cut back cross

5    Player 3 makes a near post run.

6    On completion of the move the players rest at the                goal they were attacking, ready to next attack the opposite goal.

7    The opposite wide player (blue) then crosses into the other goal
